Description
What is going on in Wales?
Two experienced Welsh women's campaigners lift the lid on the Welsh government's dismantling of women's rights and its imposition of sex-denialist ideology on children. Our guests, Cathy Larkman and Ali Morris, will also consider the broader policy capture that has occurred across public institutions in Wales, and get us up to speed on how the pushback is going..
Cathy Larkman is the co-ordinator of the Wales section of the Women’s Rights Network, a position she has held since the inception of this increasingly influential grassroots network of women. She is also Treasurer of the Swansea Bay Resisters group.
A former Police Superintendent, she has always championed issues affecting women & girls and was a founder member of the South Wales Female Police Association, being named as one of the most influential female officers in the South Wales Police ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling’ event. Since retirement, she has dedicated herself full-time to women’s rights and in 2022, researched and exposed a controversial decision by the National Police Chiefs Council to permit male officers self-identifying as women, to strip search females, contrary to current legislation.
Cathy has been involved in many local and national campaigns and has been the face of WRN in several media interviews, working closely with sister groups like Merched Cymru to progress common causes.
Ali Morris is a full-time feminist activist and campaigner, whose proudest achievements include persuading the council to permit no strip clubs, and obtaining the first ever funding for a local project supporting women in prostitution.
She spent nearly 30yrs working in the women’s sector, much of that as a specialist social worker combatting violence against women and girls. Since retirement she runs a VAWG Training and Consultancy business. Ali is on the Executive Committee of Merched Cymru, FiLiA's Wales Lead as well as their interim UK VAWG Lead, Chair of Swansea Bay ReSisters and a member of WRN. She has a particular interest in fighting prostitution, pornography and sexual violence and was lucky enough to visit Japan last year on behalf of FiLiA to support Japanese feminists in setting up services for victims and survivors of sexual exploitation.
